THE VATICAN

June, 1984

The Vatican is one of the tiny countries in Europe. Completely surrounded by the city of Rome, the Vatican is a separate state ruled by the Pope. St. Peter's Basilica, the Pope's home and the Vatican Museum are all within the boundaries of the Vatican. When we were there, we managed to see the Pope giving his weekly speech in the plaza in front of St. Peter's as well as hearing mass said by the Pontiff in St. Peter's. Perhaps the most breathtaking of the treasures we saw in the Vatican was the Sistine Chaple.
