Located only a block from the river that divides Thailand from Burma (now called Myanmar) the Wang Thang Hotel is the best one located in the city of Mae Sai. There are other, more resortlike lodgings, but the Wang Thang Hotel is walking distance to Burma and all of the shopping that make Mae Sai a perfectly wonderful destination for those who love to shop. The hotel has a small swimming pool and a large restaurant that serves buffet breakfast and lunch. Dishes on buffets in hotels in Thailand always have a method of captioning the proffered dish in English. This hotel restaurant used the cutest way I saw in the whole country. Each main dish had the usual sign in front of it, but instead of words in English, the signs were pictures of the animal the dish was made from. See the photo below. There was a nice jewelry store at the side of the lobby, and evidently the owner of the hotel has a collection of grandfather clocks because there are about a dozen of them in the public areas.
