We're known Jane since we started coming to Chiang Mai but we had never visited her house before this trip. They live outside of Chiang Mai in a small town, and on the way home from Mae Rim, she invited us to her home. Chaid wasn't working that day so we got to visit with him, too. Their small, but very comfortable, home is surrounded with a lot of land that belongs to them. Along their drive way there are teak trees, and at the back of their property is a good sized pond surrounded by fruit bearing trees. Chaid said that there are fish in the pond, too. He picked some tamarind for us from one of the trees on the pond, and we ate some of their oranges, too. They were both very good. We discovered that Thai oranges are different from those in the U.S. They are sweeter and have a stronger taste. Although I don't really care for oranges, I found myself loving the Thai ones. And after that day I started drinking orange juice with breakfast instead of the pineapple just that I had before. They have a dog, some chickens and four cattle that are expecting babies any day now. Jane said that a full grown cow will sell for 10,000 baht, or $250. At the back of their house they have a small, open air barn for the cows and a rather ramshackle chicken coop. Chaid's father lives next door. I assume he is retired.
