This year we tried out a new hotel. Construction on the Central Duang Tawan began at least fourteen years ago, but the hotel did not accept guests for over ten years due to a lawsuit. When the suit was settled, the hotel opened and added another high rise hotel to the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar area. Many parts of the hotel are pure elegance, but there are a lot of errors that were made in the design. For one thing, there are not enough elevators which causes long waits for the few they have. Another error to my way of thinking is the fact that rooms with walls of windows face the south. Since the electrical power to the room is turned on only after a guest places a key in a special pad, the afternoon heat takes hours and hours to disapait once the guests are back in the room. We asked for a smaller, less deluxe room just so we could face the north and get very little sun during the day. The people working in the hotel are pleasant and hard working. The restaurants, and there are three full restaurants, are excellent. One, the Sunflower Chinese Restaurant, is on the top floor and has a view of the entire city as well as delicious Peking duck..
