On this visit to Chiang Rai we decided to stop at the statue of King Mengrai, the man who founded the city of Chiang Rai as well as Chiang Mai, and I seem to remember that he founded a few other cities in Laos and China as well.. The weather was beautiful the day we were there, and the sky was as blue as could be. The plaza around the statue is beautifully adorned with flowers, umbrellas and other decorative items. It's a place where people go to have their photos taken because it's just so pretty. There are flowers all around the plaza, and the two sides of it are mirror images surround the statue of King Mengrai and the gold shields behind him. After we left the plaza, on our way out of the city, we passed over a bridge that had potted poinsettias on it.
