In the lobby of our hotel was a box office with posters of "lady boys" performing. Behind the box office was a set of circular stairs that led down to a basement level and to the caberet theater where "The Cypso Show" was presented. Every night large tour groups arrived to see the show, and we decided that we had to see what all the fuss was about so on the last night in Bangkok we arranged for a table at the show. The tickets were 1000 baht ($25 US) at the box office, but those who arranged for a tour paid only 600 baht for the tour which included the show and transportation to and from their hotels. The show ticket included one beverage, wine, beer, fruit juice, bottled water or a soft drink. The performance was quite good, but not up to the standards of Tiffany's in Pattaya. Sitting at a small table is not the most comfortable way to see a show as far as I am concerned, but we did enjoy what we saw. The "lady boys" of Thailand are skilled transvestites. Some of them have had surgery to become women while others aren't gay at all and just enjoy dressing as women. Like the other transvestite shows in Thailand, they included numbers from Korea, Japan and elsewhere. This show had an act where the entertainers dressed and imitated some very famous celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson and Tina Turner. At the end of the show the entertainers came out for photographs with the audience members.
