THE ISLAND OF TAHITI (34 images)

Our trip to Tahiti was tacked on to the beginning of a trip to Australia and New Zealand.

The beautiful island of Tahiti is filled with gorgeous scenarios, natural sand beaches some of which are black volcanic sand, and lush tropical foliage. The city of Papeete was small with an interesting market where one could select from a vast array of flowers, and a huge selection of freshly caught fish.

One of the funniest things on the island was the public transportation. They used large pick-up trucks with a top over the back. People sat on benches along the walls. The locals called them Le Truck.

Everybody in Tahiti is in a hurry. When you drive on the island you are surrounded by all types of vehicles competing for the space in the road. the hustle and bustle is cute when the vehicles are such as they: motorbikes, bicycles, small cars, trucks doubling as buses, and hotel limos. They sometimes make five lanes out of two.
