Galveston (71 images)
After reading about Moody Garden's Festival of Lights, we decided to go down to Galveston to see the Christmas display. Moody Gardens is a class act, and the special attractions they have put on (an ice show, a dinosaur show, etc.) have all been thoroughly enjoyable and worth the trip. The Festival of Lights, unfortunately, was the one that wasn't really very good. They claim to have almostt half a million lights, but they have them spread around so that you walk for about forty-five minutes seeing different small displays along the way. The one thing I found fascinating was the fact that for a long part of the walk the lights were on the waterfront. The reflection of the lights in the water was very beautiful.

We also stopped to visit our friend Moni who had two huge souvenir stores on the Seawall. This time we saw an advertisement listing a third store on the Strand, the main street of Galveston, so we headed right for the Strand.

A sign for his store, Dolphin World, announced the locatoin of his third store, but when we went inside and asked the employee there where he was, she said he was in "the restaurant." I assumed she meant a nearby snack shop, so I went outside, but in the direction she had pointed, we found only an under construction buildng. We wandered over and climbed up into the still unfinished building and asked for Moni. His employees pointed him out, and there he was on the Strand helping to move the new refrigerators that had just been delivered. The man is a bundle of energy and can't sit still, so he was there lifting and carrying refrigerators up the steps and into his restaurant to be.

From the multi windows on the Strand, we were able to see two cruise ships in port. He said that he would be walking distance to both of the docks. And then he proceded to show us around what wil be the only Mexican restaurant in the touris area and the largest restaurant in Galveston. His place will seat 450 people, and the bar he has is the biggest bar in the state of Texas. He said he did some research, and he made it long enough so that it was ten feet longer than the next longest.

We also drove along 25th Street and the Seawall and I snapped four or five photos there.
