Texas Stonehenge (20 images)
Near the Hill Country town of Kerrville stands a copy of Stonehenge, the unexplained circle of stones one normally finds on the Salisbury Plains in England. When first I heard about it, I knew we would have to visit the site which was created by an eccentric Texan who wanted to create his own circle of stones on the plains of Texas. At a later date he also added a couple of copies of the strange heads found on Easter Island far out in the Pacific Ocean.

As you wend your way through the hill country road you pass a small dam and resulting resevoir with a cleverly named shopping center standing across the road from it. We got a kick out of the "Dam" stores.

A couple of miles beyond the Dam Shopping Center, as you drive into a lazy curve, Texas Stonehenge appears in front of you looking almost like a space ship from outer space resting in a quiet, sheep tended field.

While at the site, which is free to the public but not advertised, we met Keith and Chris from Austin who had discovered the site the same way I had, on the internet. The friendly Texas young men were there to check it out, too.
