This area was settled by Germans in the middle of the 19th century, and since they were both farmers and religious people, they had their farms out in the country and a small Sunday House in the village so they could come into town on a Saturday to do their shopping, then they spent the night in their tiny Sunday Houses. The females slept on the ground floor while the males climbed up an outside staircase and slept in the attic.
Many of the tiny houses built in those days are still lived in today although most have since been enlarged. The first house in this album was one of the enlarged ones. It is unique in that the owners never bothered to cover up or blend in the original construction when they added a second and third part to the house. The simply added on and left both areas in the original style.
