Reasearch into Glen Rose also showed me that there was a State Park called Dinosaur Valley where various dinosaur tracks were discovered in the exposed areas of the streambed of the Pauxy River. We visited the park but discovered that going to see the tracks requires hiking or wading boots, so that will be something to do in the future.
Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, however, was a wonderful experience. We drove our car along a meandering path for a little less than ten miles while animals came up to our car to check us out. The center sells specially made food for the animals (all natural with molasses to keep it together in nuggets) which you are able to buy and feed to them. Any other food is strictly forbidden.
Among the friendly animals are giraffes, zebras, deer and ostriches. At the time we visited, the male giraffes were being kept in an enclosure to keep them from the females because they didn't want to enlarge their collection.
Fossil Rim also has a lodge and a safari camp. If you decide to stay in the Lodge, rooms begin at $135 per night in the off season, and go up to $300 in season. Should you prefer a stay in the Foothills Safari Camp where you stay in an African style safari tent (completely air-conditioned with a private bath) that is located near the watering hole, the rates are $175 off season and $200 in season. Guests at the Lodge or the Foothills Safari Camp are treated to a special early morning photographic safari in an open top safari vehicle through areas of the Center that are not open to other visitors. They can discuss the trip over a hot breakfast afterwards. 100% of the profits from the Center go back to the animals.
