Today we went to the Houston Cat Show in the George R. Brown Convention Center on the East Side of downtown. The area was neglected for years while the streets farther west grew up with skyscrapers housing banks, oil companies, etc. In the late 1990s construction began on the new baseball park that was constructed in the ruins of the train station. Since then building has been constant and today it still continues. Restaurants, shopping centers and apartment buildings are being built while the older structures are being turned into lofts. Today the Avenida de las Americas passes in front of two sports venues (Minute Maid Park and the Toyota Center) and the George R. Brown Convention Center where we went to see the cat show. A bridal show was going on today also. It's amazing how the area is growing. Every time we go there for any reason we don't recognize the area.
