City Hall (24 images)
Stadshuset, or City Hall, is located on Kungsholmen Island, and although it looks as if it were built in a prior century, construction on it was actually finished in 1923. The red brick building was made in what they call the "National Romantic Style." The area in front of it is a lovely parklike space on the waterfront. Inside City Hall we visited three large areas. One is an outdoor civic court, the second is an interior covered court, and the third is called the Blue Hall. The Blue Hall should probably be called the gold hall since the walls are covered with mosaics that contain 18 million pieces of gold and colored glass. It is in the interior court that the Nobel Prize is awarded, and the Blue Hall is where the dinner afterward is held. There is a place setting such as is used at that dinner on display near the gift shop.

I was surprised to see portable toilets available along the shore at the side of the City Hall.
