Arriving In Copenhagen (59 images)
The first leg of our 42 day Odyssey was a stay in Copenhagen, Denmark. Never having been there before, and not knowing anyone who had, I had absolutely no idea what to expect so anything would have been a surprise. Happily Copenhagen was a wonderful one. It is spotlessly clean and seemingly unaware of its charm. Even the hotel we stayed in, which was a Comfort Inn built right alongside the train track and on a street that was decidely dangerous because of ongoing construction, wasn't all that bad. The lack of A/C was no problem whatsoever. We opened the window, turned on the fan, and had absolutely no problem sleeping.

One thing that was great about the hotel was its location. Right outside our window was the train, and the station was just outside the door of the lobby. All we had to do was hop on the train and get off several stops away and we were right in the middle of downtown.

The tickets were handled on an honor system. Since we were five, we were able to save quite a bit of money by purchasing a ten coupon ticket that gave us five round trips. The ticket was a long strip of paper which you inserted into a ticket machine before boarding the train. At no time while we rode the train in Copenhagen did we see anyone checking tickets, but we were warned that the fine if you didn't have one was more than enough to keep people honest.
