THE ESPLANADE (26 images)
The long, narrow Esplanade connects Market Square to Nannerheim, the main business street. Along the Esplanade the buildings seemed more elegant and decorated than in other parts of the city, and it was there that many of the Finnish designers had their shops.

The center of the area is a paved walkway that is divided by a city street. On the north side of the street the walkway, dotted with statues, passes through grassy areas where the locals enjoy sitting on a sunny day. We saw families picnicking and groups of young people visiting.

South of the street, the Esplanade has a beautiful restaurant on one side and a large fountain on the other.

In a bare spot on the wide walkway one enterprising lady put on a show with trained cats. She also had a couple of dogs, but the heart of the show was the performance by her cats. Photos from the cat show made up the next album.
