CHURCH IN THE ROCK (21 images)
Possibly the most unusual site in all of Scandinavia, the Church in the Rock rates a visit by every tourist to Helsinki. The Lutheran church actually stands inside a hollowed out rocky prominence. The ceiling is a concave disk of of copper connected to the rocks by glass with supporting panels of metal that keep the bright sunlight from the interior.

The accoustics are magnificent, and when, as we were lucky enough to do, you can experience live organ music, you can truly experience the surrounding sound.

The neighborhood near the church is the home of some lovely apartment buildings.

Among the other sights in the city that we passed by were the train station, the main flea market and a trolley barn.
