The Mowana Safari Lodge was similar to the Victoria Falls one, but there were two big differences. The Mowana, which is their name for a baobob tree, was located on the Chobe River, and it was built around a giant baobob tree. The hotel was built around a baobob tree that was at least 1500 years old, but just before the lodge was about to open back in the mid 1990's a fire destroyed the tree. A search went on throughout the area looking for another giant baobob tree. When an eight hundred year old tree was found, it was decided that the tree would be moved to the center of the hotel. Less than a year later, the Mowana Safari Lodge actually opened. An interesting part of the hotel was the cocktail lounge that actually overlooked the river. The swimming was a two leveled one like the Vic Falls hotel, but the pool was nowhere near as rustic in design. An outdoor restaurant was located alongside the pool on ground level. The hotel was very proud that President Bill Clinton and his wife and daughter visited there on a safari while he was in office. They have various pictures of the Clintons on safari in the hotel lobby.
