On the scenic Mpumalanga Loop we visited three towns. The first one was Pilgrim's Rest. Originally an 1880's mining village, the town went into decline and was recently restored. Today it's a pretty little town on a hill mainly populated by gift shops and visited by lots and lots of tourists. Graskop was the town where we had lunch. There is a great pancake restaurant there. South African pancakes are a cross between a pancake and a crepe. Harrie's Restaurant, where we had lunch, is famous in South Africa for its delicious pancakes. They are made with everything: meat, mushrooms, chicken and all sorts of sweets. There was a clever shopping center with the stores built in the shape of the African Rowandel. One of them was a shoe store cleverly named The African Sole. Sabie was the last town we stopped in before arriving at our hotel for the night. We did nothing more than make a rest stop, but it was interesting to see some of the buildings in town. There was a unique street sign that confused me, and on the way out of town, we say a Hippo Crossing sign.
