Pilgrim's Rest, Graskop, and Sabie (66 images)

On the scenic Mpumalanga Loop we visited three towns. The first one was Pilgrim's Rest. Originally an 1880's mining village, the town went into decline and was recently restored. Today it's a pretty little town on a hill mainly populated by gift shops and visited by lots and lots of tourists.

Graskop was the town where we had lunch. There is a great pancake restaurant there. South African pancakes are a cross between a pancake and a crepe. Harrie's Restaurant, where we had lunch, is famous in South Africa for its delicious pancakes. They are made with everything: meat, mushrooms, chicken and all sorts of sweets.

There was a clever shopping center with the stores built in the shape of the African Rowandel. One of them was a shoe store cleverly named The African Sole.

Sabie was the last town we stopped in before arriving at our hotel for the night. We did nothing more than make a rest stop, but it was interesting to see some of the buildings in town. There was a unique street sign that confused me, and on the way out of town, we say a Hippo Crossing sign.
