Hotels, Restaurants & Shopping (65 images)

There were lots of hotels in the Gold Zone, and these are a few of them. El Cid Hotel is considered the best in the city. Notice the living tree that holds up the roof of the cocktail lounge.

There are lots of good restaurants in Mazatlan. We tried several: the Shrimp Factory, a taco place, and Panama. Panama Restaurant is the best of the three. It is not only a restaurant, but it has a full service bakery connected to the dining room. The cakes they had on display were stunning, and since we were there just a short time before Halloween, a lot of them were decorated for the holiday that is catching on in Mexico. November 2 is the actual date they celebrate in Mexico as the Day of the Dead when they honor all of the people who have died and haven't been named saints. November 1st is All Saints Day. Now the children like to dress up in costume and go trick or treating instead of write funny poems about the death of their friends, or eat candy skulls and bread of the dead, a special bread made only in the month of October.

The last part of this album deals with shopping, and who doesn't love shopping. There are photos of various venues in Mazatlan, the most interesting of which was the main market downtown.
