Old Town Riga (71 images)
Riga's Old Town, much beloved by the Latvians, fell into a state of disrepair under the Soviet occupation. In fact, when the USSR fell, the Old Town was slated for destruction to give them space for more high rise apartments. Luckily for the world, the Old Town was saved, and today, after much renovation and rebuilding, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Unfortunately for us, the weather did not cooperate and we shivered our way through a walking tour of this beautiful old city.
